Walter Busschop develops a little storage trolley. He reinvests the profit in a business called BU-LO.

1970

The company thrives, supported by two principal mainstays: quality and good service.

Aware that selling a "total look" would enable it to boost its market share in Belgium, BULO starts to specialise in office planning and design. The company offers a comprehensive service, ranging from floor to wall coverings, curtains, lights and plants.

1987

BULO settles in Malines (Mechelen), in the industrial estate along the E19 highway which links Brussels and Antwerp. The sales, production and design activities are brought together under one roof. BULO becomes a market leader in Belgium.

BULOflex is launched:  a space saving furniture system based upon flexibility and ergonomics

1992

Bulo introduces BULOSAFE, a very innovative system for locking storage and drawer units without the need for any key.

The new company directors, Walter Busschop’s sons,  Dirk and Luk, decide to give serious thought to future office concepts. They invite two leading interior designers, Claire Bataille and Paul ibens,  to create a desk where it is pleasant to work on. Their solution was simplicity itself: H2O, or back to basics.

Culture and design as an art. The Carte Blanche collection provides eminent European architects and designers with an opportunity to give tangible form to their ideas of what a work table should be like. In the same year, M2, the one metre square desk is introduced as a revolutionary new office concept

1997

BULO opens its first showroom outside Belgium, at Butler's Wharf in London, next to the Design Museum. Bulo receives the VIZO-Henry Van de Velde Award for Best Company.

BULO launches its all purpose chair Pub & Club at the INTERIEUR Biennial and the Orgatec trade fair. In October BULO opens its second showroom abroad: in Cologne (Köln),

1999

In the Carte Blanche series Maarten Van Severen creates 'SCHRAAG': an up-to-date interpretation of the 'trestle' concept. The Dutch interior architect Evelyne Merkx designs 'SPINE', an impressive table, made of multiplex of massive boards.

2000

A new executive furniture range designed by eponymous French architect Jean Nouvel is launched at Orgatec/Cologne and Interieur . Amsterdam becomes the third Bulo outlet outside Belgium.

2001

In January, during the Furniture Fair in Cologne (Germany), Dirk Bikkembergs' MAT is shown to the public, a new product added to the Carte Blanche range.  

2002

Double You (by Swiss product designer Hannes Wettstein) is launched as the new hot desking office concept. Easy Rider (by Danny Venlet) becomes the official chair of Interieur 02.

2003

Bulo celebrates its 40th anniversary !

2004

A new showroom, beautifully located at Boulevard de Waterloo in Brussels opens its doors. TAB CHAIR, a polyvalent chair for residential and professional use, designed by Brussels architect & designer Alain Berteau is launched at Interieur.

 

2005

2007

A new creation within the Carte Blanche series is presented to the public: Love Table by Edouard François.
